Most other circumventions require the child to know what they’re doing, while a mobile hotspot is something they would naturally use when outside of the house.

That becomes useless as soon as the child discovers the hotspot feature on their phone.
It would be nice to see web filtering as part of it. A DNS like 1.1.1.3 can easily be bypassed.
I would not be suprised if that is biased by Android tablets which now default to desktop mode.
That sound good. If you do want to go back, you can easily install Swap if you want to, and Ubuntu Server if you install Flatpak and remove Snap and some other Ubuntu bloat is basically Mint without a preinstalled desktop environment, so you can install Sway wuth no Cinnamon stuff.
I would skip it if that is an issue. I think Bazzite with a few Gnome extensions (Dash to Panel, Arc Menu, and GTK 4 Desktop Icons NG) is the best for beginners. It just works.
Why did you move away from Mint?

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Gimp 3.2 is officially released. The game has changed. Adobe just got punched in the face.
21·3 months agoYou can add PhotoGIMP to change the layout to be similar to Photoshop.
Firefox (and threfore Librewolf) has enhanced tracking protection which is similar.
I agree that LibreWolf’s default settings are too strict as Mullvad Browser serves the best privacy niche, however all you have to do is turn off cookie clearing and ResistFingerprinting, then enable WebGL.
It seems to be LineageOS with some extra preinstalled apps. I doubt it is horrible but there is little reason to pick it over Lineage, especially as Lineage will get security updates a bit sooner and lets you install MicroG as sandboxed user apps instead of system apps.
The reason I wrote my post is because there are better alternatives, like Graphene if you have a Pixel and can accept sandboxed Play services, or LineageOS which is less secure but works on many more phones and supports MicroG.
/e/ is very insecure compared to those, and it is likely easy for someone who has bought a used Cellebrite to get into it and make your lockscreen useless.
They are just file extensions that refer to containers. .m4a and .mp4 use an MP4 container which allows for metadata while .aac is raw.
That’s what I use. It even has the FDK-AAC encoder which many open souce projects leave out due to the patent situation, though that does not matter if you only use LC-AAC.

1·4 months agoI understand that, but if a hacker gets into your PC or someone takes it from you while it is logged in then that is like someone walking into your house and seeing you naked because the door has to be unlocked to get in the house.
Drive encryption is only one step towards a peivate and secure system. You can choose a middle ground such as limiting logs to 3 days if you prefer.

25·4 months agoI think you are right. My post is simply a PSA to let people know that clicking forget on a Wi-Fi network or uninstalling a Flatpak does not remove all traces.
My scenario is also not specifically crafted; it is what happened to Ross Ulbricht.

19·4 months agoIf someone takes your laptop while it is unlocked rhey can see the logs. It is dangerous to keep them on if you are somewhere like China and use your laptop in a public space.

Which browser is that?
