  • I thought so too, but then I tried it and I really hated it. If you find yourself getting recommended a bunch of clickbaity videos, then maybe it would be something you’d like, but I tend to block those types of creators so I don’t really see them, so all dearrow ever did for me was make the titles and thumbnails of some of the videos I normally would watch really boring and bland. I trust someone like Tom Scott or Smartereveryday to not use their titles and thumbnails to lie to me to fool me into watching their videos, and since those were the only types of creators that were being affected by dearrow for me, I found it worse when seeing their videos in my recommended list. I personally don’t mind watching a video titled “Why Blue LEDS were really hard to create” instead of seeing something like “This video is about how different colored LEDS were created” with some bland screenshot showing an assembly line of lights or whatever.

  • I just feel like 3 different subscriptions is too much. I pay for RD, as I feel like it’s the best value out there at ~$18 twice a year, but I just use torrent sites on my iPhone/iPad to find whatever I want and upload those directly to RD’s site with a safari extension. Then $25 gets you a fire stick where Kodi is $free.99 so that takes care of watching on TV. I was seriously hoping this whole sideloading thing on iOS17 was gonna be available in all regions and not just the EU because having Kodi on my iPhone without having to worry about signing it once a week would be a blessing.

  • If you’re going to make crappy arguments, could you at least make different ones than the same ones I’ve already addressed from other people? There are people here who aren’t even 20 years old themselves. It’s absolutely absurd that you would suggest that someone can’t repost something just because it’s from another site. That’s literally where 99% of all of the content from sites like Lemmy and Reddit come from. You’re just bitching for the sake of having something to bitch about.

I think it’s time for me to take my own advice and use that block button to make things I don’t like go bye-bye.

    Bye-bye!

  • This website is exactly what you make of it. I don’t care for shitposts, low effort memes, or just absurdist humor in general, so I make very liberal use of the block community button so I don’t have to see things that other people seem to enjoy, but I don’t.

You know what I try really hard not to do though?

Go around and bitch about things that other people do like when it’s really fuckin’ easy to just press one button and never see similar content ever again. Maybe you should try it if you find this type of humor isn’t up to your high standards.

  • I’ve always hated the phrase “you must be fun at parties”, but I’ll be dammed if I can’t come up with a more apt reply to you than that in this moment.

As I said before, for your sake, I sincerely hope this is just some act you’re putting on for the sake of…boredom? E-clout? I dunno. I can’t rationalize why anyone would act how you are right now. We get it, you didn’t find this funny. But 250+ other people did. I’m gonna toss out another quote that I dislike but it really fits here too. If you don’t like it, just downvote and move on. There’s no reason for you to be a dick like this, but here we are.

  • Tap dancing Christ, I hope you’re not this dreadful in real life and just being an overly pedantic bore is something you reserve for the internet.

my second objection is that that copying bash entries is meaningless activity - everyone can just go to where they already are to see them.

Yeah, and I could browse every other website on my own to look for content I found relevant but the entire purpose of an aggregation site like Reddit or Lemmy is to…aggregate things.

and last - that post was not funny when it was new and time did not help it 🤷‍♂️

I found it amusing enough to toss it an upvote. Which is more than I could say for your needless dull reply.

  • I imagine this is just a dns/domain name issue and the server still exists with all its login info and data intact. If that’s the case we should just be able to change the settings in whatever client we’re using to the new domain name/ip address and everything should work like normal. Unless the server got nuked and there were no backups or something catastrophic.

  • Eh, I’m not one to go around suggesting functionality to devs of anything right now. At this point they’re all just scrambling to add basic functionality to what they’ve managed to scrap together. I’m pretty patient, I’ll just wait and see what apps end up with what functionality and which ones are receptive to user input and maybe if I find one that’s 98% of what I am looking for I’ll suggest adding that last 2%. But for now I just used Memmy to block stuff and that’s about it.
