I’m not in a tech field now, but I used to be. I jumped ship when everything started moving to ‘cloud based’ because I don’t trust anything I can’t kick when it breaks.

Debian is … fine. It’s the Toyota Corolla of distros. It’s reliable, it’ll likely do what you need it to do. It’s not fun or exciting or packed with the latest tech, it just does its job with minimum fuss.

The OG Legion Go supports eGPU, at least on paper. It’s one of the reasons I bought it. Mine runs bazzite fantastically, but haven’t personally tested the eGPU piece yet.

I feel like people might be misunderstanding the request. Are you after something like AlarmPi?

I’m happy enough with my current (non-oss) watch that I’m not going to change until it becomes unusable, but if I had to make the decision today, I’d probably have a go at installing Asteroid OS on a secondhand device.

I had no idea gPodder could do that. I’d never tried it, just assumed it was mostly for playing and syncing with the web service.

Actually that’s something I hadn’t considered. I do have a Jellyfin / *arr setup, there might be something in that ecosystem that does at least part of what I want.

I’m glad they kept the detachable controllers. Makes it much nicer to get actual work done on it without looking like a freak. I just hope they release an official keyboard dock for this one.

RX6650XT running bazzite about a year here. Never had an issue.

Bazzite only really does gaming mode on AMD GPUs (RX4xx+). As a general rule of thumb AMD cards are usually better supported under Linux. Bazzite’s desktop mode should work fine on a 1660 though.

Waydroid runs on some Ubuntu Touch devices. Probably elsewhere too. Can’t vouch for the performance though, never used it.

AntennaPod. Can allegedly sync via gpodder.net or gpoddersync. Personally never got it to work quite right, but I didn’t try very hard either.

I did look at ClassicPress too. But apparently despite broad compatibility with WordPress plugins, activitypub specifically breaks it.

Good point! I just checked and apparently there’s several. Yet another rabbit hole to look into.

EDIT: Yeah, I looked into it, there’s actually only a few. rss2ap doesn’t support mastodon, which is kind of a deal breaker. Mastofeeder wants its own DNS to run locally, I can’t see their proxied feeds from my instance, and some sites just straight up don’t work. rss-to-activitypub seems fairly robust, but really wants its own mastodon instance and hasn’t been touched in four years.

Good suggestion but all of that seems like more hassle than I’m prepared to deal with.
