2·4 months agoI’ve given this app a go and like it. I’ve been on the search for a replacement to obsidian, but haven’t landed on anything yet. Is built in sync on the roadmap?
I like Obsidian storing everything as markdown files that I can edit outside of the application. I’m not so much a fan of the do-it-yourself obsidian live sync because it’s a fairly fragile setup and involves updating plugins and settings across multiple vaults and multiple devices.
Affine and Trillium go the database route. They are both decent (though affine handles tables poorly, while trillium’s mobile PWA UI has navigation issues), but with both I have real difficulty importing an Obsidian vault keeping the folder structure and images intact.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•What's your opinion on Tuta mail?English
221·5 months agoI just migrated away from Tuta after trying the service for a year. I like it well enough, but it presented too many frustrations to be a service to pay for.
- While they have labels (yay!) their inbox rules cannot apply labels so you are stuck manually tagging everything (boo!) - and the UI for manually tagging could use improvement.
- Mobile (Android) notifications stop working frequently.
- While they integrate their contacts in to the Android contact list, they refuse to integrate their calendar with the Android system calendar - meaning I cannot pull a consolidated list of calendar events in to my launcher, and am stuck using their calendar application (which could use a lot of improvement).
- If you set a calendar event reminder, and then change the time of the event, the reminder will go off at the original event time (or 15/30 minutes before, whatever you set it to).
- Long refreshes when loading the inbox. Navigating back to the application often has the server disconnected, then you have to wait a spell for it to reconnect so you can carry on.
After searching around and checking purelymail, infomaniak, mailbox.org, mxroute, migadu, zoho, etc. I landed on fastmail (with my own domain) predominantly because of their implementation of labels (super slick). Their mobile app and desktop applications are also very slick. Contacts/calendar sync in to the Android System is done through DavX, but I also have it syncing to my Nextcloud instance. It’s a more expensive solution than the others, but labels (tags/categories) are such an important part of my workflow that there aren’t a lot of options unless I wanted to go back to M365/Google Workspace.
If I was to give up labels, I’d probably go with infomaniak or mailbox.org. Both of their offerings were slick and the price was right.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•CtrlAssist: Controller Assist for gaming on Linux 🎮🤝English
51·6 months agoThis looks nice for gaming with my kid, though I find that most games on Steam allow me to have two controllers connected and both working as a single player input. I can already help my kid control the camera while they are doing the majority of the movement.
It’s probably a function of Steam input.

10·7 months agoI’m one of the people who is happy with my Nextcloud setup (outside of never quite getting only office to work in browser after I hooked it all up to a reverse proxy behind HTTPS), but I always try to keep my eye on developments in the space for a potential better solution. I looked at OCIS a while back, but it didn’t have the quality of life features that I enjoy to make it worth me switching from a working Nextcloud deployment.
Does OCIS have a desktop client that supports on-demand file synchronization (a la OneDrive) rather than just selective folder sync? Does it support storing files as is in a natural directory structure or is everything stored as a flat file blob? Is it able to handle external storage even if that external storage is physical storage on a container mount point?

I have written with a healthy helping of dashes for a long time (regular ass - unless auto-correct switches it to an em-dash. This AI proliferation of em-dashes (and people’s awareness of it) means I get over-scrutinized 😟
