I find Go Magic quite pricey (sure, it’s the price of a streaming service per month, but the minimum is 3 months subscription) for the cheapest tier. And then you get 20% discount on higher tier courses. So even if you get the lowest tier, you end up paying more for the “extra” material.
Has anyone paid for it? Did you find it actually helpful?
I think my problem is that I feel like I’m low level where I don’t think it makes too much sense to pay 30 dollars for courses.
(Also, my first post in any community, yay. I had been only commenting so far.)
Edit: Go Magic is added in the sidebar in this community, so I guess someone must have found it helpful (?)
Theres so many free resources to learn/improve at go out there that I wouldn’t pay for go magic. Playing games, doing tsumegos, and maybe studying a book here or there will help you improve and there’s lots of material on youtube/twitch. Playing games to me seems the best way to improve. Maybe eventually join a league or club that you can get games reviewed on. 😎👍
Yes, lots of resources. But that’s also kind of overwhelming, heh. I like solving problems, because I can usually do that throughout the day instead of carving out a big slot for games. I obviously still play games, but solving problems is easier to do wherever.
My problem with books is that most books people recommend me seem to be out of print. 😔
I used to play in the past (just got back to playing, got much worse in the meantime) people were willing to review games together after you finished whether online or offline. I feel like especially online people don’t do that much now, they seem to hurry off to another game. I get that not every game is a learning opportunity, but sometimes I would like to discuss certain parts of the play.
I paid for it when it was on sale for black Friday a year ago or so. I enjoyed the lessons and found it a good resource to practice Go when a full game seemed like too much of a commitment. That said, it is really pricy, so I ended up dropping it after my membership expired. If you join the discord, they are always posting sales, so maybe try to grab it for a test month while it’s cheap.
Oh, I never noticed sales. That sounds interesting. Thanks :)
