Hi all,
We’re looking to get off Rackspace’s email as the Spam filtering is pure garbage. We’re going to avoid the Googles and MS’s of the world, and I’m wondering if this community has suggestions for mail providers that run FOSS services (and are public about that via support), and/or are privacy focused. Note: Proton is a no-go due to having to run an IMAP middle-man service.

Check Posteo. Working great for me since I left gmail.
Posteo is also my choice. It’s now not only my main E-Mail adress, but also my sync for calendar and adressbook. When i decided not to use Google any more several years ago i considered hosting my own server or use a service. I ended up with Posteo and so far never regret it. Paying 1€/month is a better deal for me than maintaining my own server, as they use their own server which are located in Germany and seem to be really trustworthy.

Never heard of them. But their website says “try ad-free”. That implies that they display ads after the trial!? If that’s the case, they can’t be trusted.

disroot web mail service is a reasonable choice as it is fully opensource and run by the community for the community. It has a pretty well IMAP support.Since it is fully funded by the community sometimes the server can go down for long time (Hardware cost is high due to dam ai and greedy corporate) so be aware of that also If your using it for buisness make sure to donate to them and apply for extra storage request and custom domain support is available.Also you have to wait for approval while registering due to the spam they are undergoing. One important thing is it lacks e2ee but its privacy focused so no need to worry.They even have an .onion site.Their website is disroot.org. Lastly the registration will not be available during the week ends.I Forgot to mention that the disroot app(mostly user maual) is available only in android fdroid or apk no play store app(which is good).
I second this recommendation. I don’t use the Disroot app on my phone, but they also offer a bunch of other great apps beyond emails in case you are interested. You can check them on their website. They’re all FOSS and free to use. Most of them don’t even require an account.
I also don’t like to run a bridge between thunderbird and proton but the e2ee doesn’t work for IMAP directly so the bridge encrypts your email before sending.Tuta doesnt even have IMAP support, you have to use their desktop app for emailing but I prefer the web version. Remember
safty and privacy comes with friction and extra work.
