It’s about the only thing I miss when I use cpp. Makes code far more legible.

Wake me when they add named arguments.
I hear you, but I disagree. My people are great at slacking me or each other when they need stuff. We have a great collaborative atmosphere. They set up meetings with each other and with me as needed, and I’ve heard over and over that they really like that. I have weekly 1:1 meetings with each of them, and usually we hang up after 15 minutes because they know what they’re doing and can get back to it.
Imagine actually going to daily standup, wow
I made a daily meeting invite, and told my team to never show up to it. Lets them show up to work an hour later since I put it in the calendar for 930-10.
They’ve been raised on systems where you don’t need it, and they fundamentally don’t understand how one talks to a computer. It’s actually quite a bit to learn, and if you didn’t grow up doing it, it seems like a big cliff.
Also my fav OP :)
Rcpp is probably the best thing to ever exist.
I reject tidyverse though
Did you just stop reading there? I was saying those projects should have atomic architectures so that “rewrite small parts when needed” can happen
Boy do I ever disagree with this.
For big projects, with multiple people and man-years of work, sure. Don’t start from scratch. But in my humble opinion, those projects shouldn’t really exist. Instead they should be atomic, made up of small page-length units which individually can be scraped and rebuilt.
For small projects, rewriting is often superb. It allows us to reorganize a mess, apply new knowledge, add neat features and doodads, etc.
How come people use sql instead of just using text files? I just use text files for everything
I do, exclusively
Getting rid of caffeine (decaf still has a little) has been amazing for me.
I wish Ubuntu was just xUbuntu by default and that xfce didn’t have like 4 different settings menus for no reason. I’d also like it if there was a minimalist icon theme by default, and a dock like old school vanilla Ubuntu.
Oh and better multi monitor support
For the love of god add named arguments to the cpp standard already. Makes code much more legible.
Dude what, replace all of those with me skiing while my mouse jiggler keeps my slack status active lol
But the browser can’t handle other languages? That seems a bit silly
I don’t work with web stuff, why is js so weird? Can you write a website in other languages, like c# or python?
It was originally rar because it’s so easy to separate into multiple files. Now you can do that in other formats, but the legacy has stuck.
If I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t have a job
Gotta leave unfinished tasks and make frivolous jira issues so it looks like there’s a reason to keep paying me to do 2 hours of work a week
Why not?
Let’s say I’m a carpenter, and occasionally I open up a cad program and draw up a wrench or lathe chuck and have it cut out of sheet steel. Yes, I did some engineering but I’m not really an engineer.
Likewise let’s say I’m an artist. Maybe I write code now and then to program my automatic paint mixer or whatever.
Code to build something: engineer
Code to use something: programmer
You could spend 100m in a day on real estate where I live. There are multiple 40-50m parcels available all over the place.
