Thanks, I did actually look it up after posting this and felt incredibly stupid.
Of course I use new tabs, I just wasn’t aware of the different ways they could be managed. Currently I use tab groups which allow me to contain my test environments and such.

Does your friend use social media apps on their, like Facebook or Instagram? Assuming they also have YouTube logged in on that device, it’s not impossible that an app may have picked up a conversation and this resulted in a targeted recommendation.
