No prob at all dude! I just wanted to add the additional context in case some other persons stumbled upon these comments, were confused, and so they can get some more information on different browser options out there. Candidly, I only learned about Mull vs Mullvad Browser this week when I was researching what non-chromium browser to switch to next.

Mull Browser != Mullvad Browser. Just to be clear. I’m adding this context because your reply was regarding a thread on Mullvad Browser, and you replied with details about Mull.
For anyone else reading this comment: Mull browser is from DivestOS and deprecated. Firefox fork. Mull was forked by the community into IronFox.
Mullvad Browser is still alive and kicking, developed by Mullvad the VPN provider. Developed in partnership with Tor Browser, also a fork of Firefox.

Command Prompt:
shutdown /a
Saved me several times over the years.

As a Linux noob, it sounds like it would work?? Wish I knew, but I can say I love Linux Mint at least.
Def research if it’s possible. And if you can, best of luck with the switch. Hope it’s smooth without much hiccups.
CatZoomies@lemmy.worldOPto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Alright nerds, I installed Linux Mint on my MacBook ProEnglish3·6 months agoI’m a millennial with a weird sense of humour lol. I try to diversify what I can, so I love classic old timey movies. Gone with the wind is great, and this meme just popped in my head so I whipped it up. Side note - I like old Chaplin movies, even some silent films too! One thing I’m gonna try to do is watch the “top movie of every year” for every year that movies were made. Seems like a fun challenge and a way to explore stuff I’ve never seen. My spouse won’t participate because she’s not really a movie person, so it’ll be something I’ll have to tackle solo! Could be fun.
You can tell I’m a millennial because a lot of my sentences around here end with lol, lol.

It doesn’t have the multi touch gestures i was accumulated to. I can still two finger scroll through pages, but scrolling speed is a little too fast for me without the ability to modulate it. When I get some time to sit down with it I’ll research what ways I can tweak it, because native settings has no customisation.
WiFi worked flawless for me. I installed OS with Ethernet cable plugged in, opened Driver Manager app, and it detected an available Broadcom driver for me to install. Quick update and reboot later and WiFi was perfect.
I only know Broadcom driver was available for my 2012 MacBook Pro Mid Summer. If you don’t have Broadcom you’ll need to search online for compatible driver. I think someone else commented here they had a 2015 and it didn’t work out for them.

CatZoomies@lemmy.worldOPto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Alright nerds, I installed Linux Mint on my MacBook ProEnglish2·6 months agoDarn, maybe it’s too new then, or maybe locked down drivers? Hopefully a solution opens up for Linux compatibility. Else, perhaps you can buy one of those miniature usb wi-fi dongles - a compromise for sure, but something to potentially consider.

Edit: I have no idea how the kids talk these days.

Candidly I haven’t tried anything else apart from the typical use such as scrolling with two fingers - and that works just fine, but it’s just really fast. I didn’t see an option to slow down two finger scroll speed, so I’ll play around with that next time and see what options there are.
CatZoomies@lemmy.worldOPto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Alright nerds, I installed Linux Mint on my MacBook ProEnglish6·6 months agoOoh that’s a good point. I’ll install Steam and see what this computer can handle! I’ll probably use it more for idle/cosy games, but I’m sure there’s some 3-D ones that could play well on here. My current gaming setups are Steam Deck when I want to be away from desk, and if I’m serious for gaming time it’s on my desk PC.

Then, the embedded driver utility detected new drivers and I saw that there was a Broadcom driver available. The 2012 MacBook Pro had Broadcom, so I was lucky and knew this would be compatible. After updating drivers and the OS to Xia, wi-fi was working perfect!
I’m not sure for other MacBooks which may have different network cards.

Thanks for the feedback as that will help me do further investigation and exploration in the Linux world. Eager to learn!
CatZoomies@lemmy.worldOPto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Alright you nerds, I made the jump to Linux.English4·6 months agoThanks for your input.
I won’t give 11 a chance due to the privacy and security concerns.
I’m also not the target customer for HDR. I’m photosensitive and bright lights are a migraine trigger. To put it in perspective, I can’t drive at night anymore due to modern headlights - I’ll end up vomiting and then possibly bedridden for a couple days. I generally have my monitors, depending on model of course, no higher than 30% brightness at all times.
CatZoomies@lemmy.worldOPto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Alright you nerds, I made the jump to Linux.English3·6 months agoHeard about Bazzite basically being like Steam Deck. I think it’s great for a handheld, or for some one who wants a specific use case such as a PC hooked up to a TV that primarily is only for gaming.
With the way I use a computer, first and foremost as a computer, Bazzite does not work for me. I want to boot directly into desktop and do desktop things. If that ever changes for me, I will definitely consider Bazzite and Steam OS as options.

I remember one thing I heard about Pop_OS was it’s excellent implementation of tiling, so this sounds interesting to me.
Curiously I forgot to try EndeavourOS. I’ll roll Linux Mint for now and then if my use case changes, I’ll explore it. So far I’ve only recently tried Pop_OS!, Zorin, and Ubuntu. Linux Mint felt best for how I currently use computers. I’m interested in the idea of whatever an “AUR”, so I’ll do some research on that too and log that away for some ideas.
CatZoomies@lemmy.worldOPto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Alright you nerds, I made the jump to Linux.English2·6 months agoThank you, that’s an important distinction. I figured it was just for settings and not my data, naturally just to reduce the size of snapshots. I’ll look into separate backup solutions, especially as this year I’m going to be looking into either a NAS type of solution, or if I want to try to learn how to roll my own on-prem Nextcloud and begin educating myself in basic networking and things like that.
Depends on the game. For example I can’t get Persona 5 Strikers to run in Proton. No videos load or cutscenes. I’d I run it with Proton-GE (9.x), it works flawlessly.
