Running@lemmy.world•Copenhagen Half Marathon 2027 Entries Go To Ballot
1·7 days agoDid you read the article? It specifically says they will be ending that practice.
There will be no resale platform for CPH Half 2027. An entry belongs to the runner it is issued to and cannot be passed to anyone else

2·7 days agoTo me it seems that the only drawback is that they also did away with bib re-sale. There doesn’t seem to be any info on what happens to the slot if a runner commits, pays for the bib, and then DNS’s. Seems like a waste of a bib.

Running@lemmy.world•Chicago Marathon announces water refill stations: Will runners use them? - Canadian Running Magazine
1·9 days agoI understand that trail running “feels” different in terms of atmosphere and culture but I don’t think the things you list make a practical difference for the purposes of this comparison.
I’d also argue that the goals of the runners aren’t that different. There are two types of goals in both kinds of running: to finish and enjoy the journey, or to push yourself and see how hard you can do against an outside standard, whether that’s other competitors or the clock. Sure, the proportion of who is chasing which category of goal is different between trail and road running, but I don’t buy into the idea that the motivations in general are different.

2·9 days agoI’d be willing to bet that a much smaller number of runners will use them if the pre-filled cups are still available. Sounds like there are some lessons to learn from Paris, but only offering re-fills is doable. There are plenty of trail running races that make it work.

1·17 days agoYeah, I’ve run events up to 50 miles purely by feel (to include an ill-advised 50k in 97 degree heat and high humidity). As a middle or back of the pack runner, I think you’re right. It’s only if you get into the real competitive part of the roster that it would make a difference.

Running@lemmy.world•Olympian Jenny Simpson Reveals She’ll Never Run Again After Suffering Cardiac Arrest in Race
11·29 days agoRunning is a big part of my life, and I’m nowhere near her level. I would imagine I’d be grieving pretty hard if someone told me I couldn’t run anymore, even if I were grateful to still be alive.
20km a week isn’t nearly enough to finish a marathon safely. You’d likely want closer to 50km a week if you don’t want it to be a suckfest. And why no walking? I think your advice is highly specific to a small sample size of runners

I was a runner, got injured, gained about 30lbs, and started running again. A couple of thoughts:
Ultimately, I went on a GLP-1 for about 5 months while maintaining a pretty conservative (for me) weekly mileage and doing more weight training instead, watched my protein intake like a hawk, and that helped me drop the weight and begin increasing mileage. It was amazing how much my speed correlated to my weight and how much easier it is to run and be injury free now that I’ve dropped the pounds.
