If you are unsure I would certainly disconnect the second drive just to be sure and have piece of mind.
After learning how to install medicat i discovered ventoy. With ventoy you can copy and paste how ever many bootable iso files you like into it and run them all from the same drive/partition from a selectable boot menu. It’s amazing, I won’t be using dd anymore for boot disks.

This can also happen if your GPU isn’t getting enough power. Try unplugging some components to test if the reduction in power draw helps or swapping your PSU out for one with a higher wattage.

I spent a few weeks learning the arch installation for my old laptop and it’s had the same installation now for about four years. It’s awesome and I have only the packages I need, no more, no less.
