That’s cool but probably unnecessary. The vast majority of hardware works fine.
I definitely opted for an AMD GPU in my new gaming rig specifically to run Linux/ChimeraOS, and hopefully one day SteamOS.

When you get around to a new laptop, look out for one that is Linux compatible. Unfortunately many hardware OEMs don’t take the time to provide drivers for Linux, and that causes problems.
So you don’t think it’s possible for someone to support a project and simultaneously acknowledge that it doesn’t suit everyone’s use-case?
Someone buys an expensive car. They say “I cant use the railway!” Are you going to tell them they’re wrong?
Yes. Because they are.
We dont know if they live next to a railway line. They’re also heavily invested in the car and unlikely to pay out for rail tickets.
None of which indicates they “can’t use the railway”. It may not be their preferred travel method, which is fine (in the metaphorical sense), but to say they “can’t” use the railway is simply untrue.
OP said “the software and driver support isn’t there”.
Someone replied and corrected them to explain the software and driver support does in fact exist.
OP replied to say that what he actually meant was that it didn’t support the specific software and driver they wanted to use.
Seems like a perfectly reasonable conversation.
Technically open source in what definition?
By the literal definition of source code that is open.
Streamable? You can also run your videos through 8mb.video and it will compress them to 100mb. That’s what I usually do.
No, it doesn’t?
It doesn’t matter whose fault it is.
If the same thing happens with this software, they will have it taken down. That’s why the license exists.
If you actually watch the OP, he talks about this. They don’t want the app to be copied and then have ads and tracking injected and then slapped onto the Play Store to exploit users like NewPipe has right now.
CEO’s statement:
We’ll probably do a Q+A on this sometime soon.
We don’t have all the answers, but I personally am very unhappy with the state of open source software. We have billions of people running polished open source software on their Android and iOS devices with all sorts of nefarious hidden software attached by Google, Apple, Facebook, etc.
So we’re not gonna just run with status quo. We want to win by letting the people be masters their computers once again.
What are the chances these components are still available in 5 years?
I mean…it does what it needs to do just fine.
Is this thing repairable?
Contact deletion - Allows you to delete contacts and stop sharing your profile
Wow, what a groundbreaking feature! 🤣
Doesn’t it make way more sense to just hack Kindle hardware? I remember having a Kindle years ago and torrenting books and just slapping them on there.
Why would they change the name instead of the version number? 🤦♂️
Can’t speak for others but mine puts up big intrusive banners if you don’t connect it to the internet.
I had the original Osmo Action. It wouldn’t do anything unless I connected it to an app and registered an account, so I returned it. So…that’s my experience.
I’m trying to point out that your “pro” of better fidelity doesn’t mean anything in a space where people aren’t using a lossless format
Some people do, though.
People are calling it a money grab move to not include a headphone jack, and I just don’t think that’s fair.
It’s absolutely fair because there’s no other legitimate explanation for removing it while simultaneously introducing your brand new wireless headphones. Just like there was no other legitimate explanation when Apple or Google or Samsung did it.
Fairphone’s entire brand is built around “sustainability” and they just shit all over it, so people are rightfully disappointed.
Yes but you can literally have “known supported hardware” without literally building a “ground up Linux machine”.
