I ran Jellyfin and plex for a while, using Jellyfin instead of plex at every oppurtunity. Then Jellyfin broke, I couldn’t figure out how to fix it in an evening, and I just went back to using Plex, which had continued working. It isn’t great, sure, but it’s fine. I think Jellyfin would need to be Immich levels of cool, or plex would actually need to be unusable for me to switch.
The phone you use on your personal time isn’t, and if an employer mandates that you use an iPhone, they’d better buy it for you.
I absolutely hate that. I’d rather just not be friends with those people. I’d think less of them if they’re not smart enough to use a messaging group that works on more than one type of phone.
The fact that there’s a lock in at all pisses me off enough that I’d force our group to change apps or exclude me, I’d be doing them a favor imo. I’d be more polite about it, of course, but I have no use for closed ecosystems that only work on one device, and I’m not quiet about it. I don’t care what device you use, even if it’s an apple device, but don’t use software that doesn’t also work on other devices.
I also can’t wait for a Linux phone, I’m tired of Google’s involvement with Android. I also don’t like Google and Samsung devices. The nice thing is that you can choose others.
Switching phones is easy or doable for everyone, assuming you just switch when you’re upgrading your phone anyways.
I’ve set up filebrowser quantum and am pretty happy with it. I also have skipped over nextcloud due to the reasons you mentioned, as I really don’t want all of the extra stuff, plus, I’ve heard it’s a pain to maintain. Seafile wouldn’t work for me for the same reasons as you.
The main thing it’s missing is offline automatic syncing of files, though I’m not sure any self hosted file app supports that unfortunately.
A single 18650 would have more capacity than the existing battery. That’d be dope. It is interesting how AAs and AAAs have a super common rechargeable standard, but the average person is not familiar with the lithium rechargeable standard.
The overwhelming ignorance of rechargeable NiMH AA batteries is completely unreasonable. It’s so nice when my Xbox One controllers die to just simply swap batteries, and throw the existing batteries on the charger. This does sound super cool and useful though. I’m pretty familiar with being an end user of Linux, but a lot of the jargon went over my head here. I’d probably be interested in reading a paragraph for each step instead of a sentence.
I’d bet a lot that it’ll be easy to install. Any Linux distro I’ve tried is a breath of fresh air after using the Windows installer. I wouldn’t even be surprised if they make driver management even more seamless and automagic than the best Linux distros, stuff like that might be why it’s taking so long.
I just run headless Linux and imagine that I’m playing games.
LibreOffice has been so good. As a non-power user I haven’t even noticed a difference, aside from the lack of bullshit.
