Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Yes, I did spend time on this
10·4 months agoYes, it’s easy to understand, but this ifelse is much safer because it “handles” uppercase and digits by just returning 0. If you’d call OP’s function with something like ‘A’, you’ll get nonsense data because it doesn’t have a default. (I think it will return whatever value currently resides in eax)
Aww, thanks.

49·9 months agoI’m number 4, but instead of looking for a job, the pattern is subject to my crippling depression. Most of the time I simply feel that it’s pointless to work on my projects, so I don’t :(

Pseudocode/general thought process walkthrough should be the only thing imo. Oh no, the interviewee forgot a semicolon, so he is trash at coding and is a no-fit is complete bullshit.
Yeah, Python has it as well. I think the only real use of it is code readability since you declare that this variable will never be used.
Starting with Java 21 (I think), they’ve introduced ignored variables, so you can now actually do this:
try { operation(); } catch (Exception _) { // nice weather, eh? }Edit: forgot that this is about JS lel
if (error) { continue; }

Piracy News@lemmy.ml•NFL Player Uses Pirate Streaming Site to Watch His Own Team
14·1 year agoPiracy is a service problem, not a pricing problem.
Exclusivity deals ruin the streaming industry, not piracy.
Even tho it’s more like a double v. Always struck me as odd.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Organic Maps got removed from Google Play Store.
41·1 year agoThe reviewers in the 3rd world country are the ones who have to deal with the appeal. I guarantee you that the removal was some form of automated system. No human review is required for deletion from the playstore. The idea behind ithat is that legitimate app developers will appeal in cases where the automated system fucks up whereas the conmen will not.
Yes. How did you figure that out?
The only EA game that is worth playing is C&C Generals anyway.

32·2 years agoMy last job offered free beer after 4pm on fridays.
It was smart as fuck if you think about it. For the small price of a few crates of beer, you got 20+ people talking in their free time, and on the weekend, without additional pay. It was officially off-work but since most of your coworkers were there, there was a lot of work-related exchange going on.
