We have big red magnets representing blocked to put on the board. We have to speak about every single blocker every stand up and what the team’s path forward is to unblock the thing. If it’s waiting for vendor, then that’s all we can do. If the ball is in our court for any blockers, and its still there tomorrow without a really good reason, there is hell to pay.

I can picture a future where people don’t bother with that. Similar to how we slowly abandoned landlines to go 100% mobile, I can imagine people going to data-only plans.

I’m about to get a phone for my kid starting high school next year, and frankly, I can see already see a case for just getting him a data plan.

I agree with him. If you don’t know what you are doing and just blindly install something off the Internet, it’s a security concern. I would not recommend that most users side-load apps, either. You have to remember that this crowd is not representative of the average user.

Just don’t take the option away from those of us who do know what they are doing.

Yes and no. DSLRs can be cheaper, but there’s something to be said about the simplicity of taking a photo and sending it immediately to a prospective family, or if your site is set up nicely, uploading it straight to a website in moments.

You can get superior photos shooting with a DSLR, but then you’ll want to put the camera somewhere safe, extract the SD card, touch it up with Photoshop/Lightroom and then save the raw as jpg. Then you can send it/upload it.

Meanwhile with the phone, you’ve taken half a dozen photos and multiple chats going on the device.

Why would I actually want to trade in my Pixel 7 for a Pixel 8, though? Even for a straight swap, the hardware upgrade is negligible and I’d lose Photo Spheres on the software side.

I’m unconvinced the 8 is even a superior phone at this point.

The neat thing about Android is you have a choice. If you don’t like the launcher your phone came with, there are plenty of alternatives that you can use for free from the app store.

I recommend trying alternatives and seeing whether you like any of the others better. If you don’t, you can go back.

That’s a bit unfair. Waze is still going and unaffected by being acquired by Google. YouTube is obviously still going and has become a core part of Alphabet’s business.

For acquisitions that have strong existing user bases, they have a history of keeping them around. I’m surprised by this move, I can’t think of another example where they’ve killed a product with a large user base they’ve spent Billions on. Not that they’re killing FitBit, just reducing the countries it will be sold in.

I’ve been a YouTube premium subscriber since before it existed. Last night I installed ReVanced.

It is not better than the default experience with premium. But it is pretty close. I’m using a patched version of the YouTube client, after all. The default client is not 🇦🇺$17/month better by a long shot.

I am still undecided on whether to wear the price increase. I have until March to decide.

The people who install Graphene and other modified Android variants on their devices are a lot more likely to be monitoring packets sent from their devices.

Believe me, we’d know the same day an android device that had been de-Googled called home. That would make worldwide news.

I think you underestimate how early Google acquired Android. In 2005, Apple wasn’t even in the mobile device market. Nokia were the dominant handset in those days.

They both track you fairly closely. There are no winners if you are primarily concerned about privacy. Google is simply more open about it, and provides more access to that data to you (like timeline and takeout).

It’s always tempting to act on emotional impulses. But such complex situations require thorough consideration that should also take into account the differences between social platforms.

Unlike other apps that algorithmically promote shocking content to unsuspecting people, on Telegram, users receive only the content to which they specifically subscribed. As such, it’s unlikely that Telegram channels can be used to significantly amplify propaganda. Instead, they serve as a unique source of first-hand information for researchers, journalists, and fact-checkers.

While it would be easy for us to destroy this source of information, doing so risks exacerbating an already dire situation.

And 99% people if not 99.999999% Android users use Play Store.

This is true, but if I were interested in a channel and the government made Google block it, I would side-load Telegram and get around the block.

So this is a token effort that won’t affect the people who actually want to see this content.

Would you sacrifice NFC/Wallet features to have that freedom back? I personally would not.

I do see a genuine market for a phone you can root and apply custom ROMs etc on, but not do banking or public transport tickets or anything else that needs a layer of trust between the merchant and the phone user.

When I say “It’s on my radar”, it means “yes, I am going to do this, but wait your turn”.

There is also “As discussed” meaning “We spoke about this already, but I need this as proof”

The cardboard is the super basic sibling to the Daydream. The Daydream has a hand remote controller that feels like a TV remote in your hand. It’s how you control the phone while wearing the headset. The Cardboard is a bit limited because you can’t really interact with it.
