Only the sith deal in absolutes
The day the 3rd party apps left reddit, I’ve been wandering around, looking for what once was
I get this reference
Mel, a real programmer!
I’d add a motherfucking website. While not exactly a story, it’s one of my favorite bits on the internets
And most of it can be applied to any job. They went all the way to 54 because they needed to make a paper.
That’s just the nature of linux though. Most common distros run without issue. But people have such a wide variety of hardware and software needs that someone somewhere will tell you they had issues with that distro.
Much easier to boot them and get a feel for the one you like, you are not likely to have an issue, and if you do it will take minutes to fix on a common distro.
And for 100% of distros someone will come and say: “except for this where you gotta do this and that but then it works fine”.
If anyone is interested there is a wonderful walk about one of the apollo flight computers
I’ve always felt like I don’t deserve my role, I climbed the proverbial ladder quick and I am very young for my position (Principal Engineer). But I sleep fine at night because at the end of the day I was always honest with my skills, my intentions and my motivations, and I’m always sure to get full agreement from everyone before doing stuff. If after all that nobody figured out I’m a fucking idiot just making an informed guess, that’s on them.
I always fear the next company I join will have “real technical leaders” who will inevitably show me my place, but it hasn’t happened so far (3-4 massive companies in the last decade).
Maybe one day I will meet this person, but it is not this day… And then I try to teach the same to younger engineers to work through problems as a team and just do it until somebody stops you, because in a lot of cases nobody has a clue either, and that’s what it means to lead.
Filco Maj 2 Brown. I even bought 2 backup ones to keep it forever. First one still going strong after 5 years.
Y’all are picking at every word. It’s also gmail links.
The wallet. The lens The hotspot The nearby share Asking me to save every password/login/id to the accounts on the phone. Messing up which account on the phone does what.
And yes, as you all have so brilliantly pointed out I can use another OS, and another browser, and another share app/drive.
It almost sounds like I should just ditch the phone with that brand if I’m going to go through all this trouble avoiding it natively
Half the features on the phone integrate with Chrome, why guy a google phone to uninstall everything google about it? The goal was specifically to have it all in one place, accounts/NFC/ SSO. I’ll buy a phone where I don’t have to reinstall all the software, makes much more sense.
A lot of it is chrome. And yeah, it’s definitely asking me to login to my account from icognito because of a “toolbar”. Yall are silly.
Neveeer buying a pixel again.
It was a good phone before google decided to become a digital rights management overlord. Every other action on my phone now has some stupid tracking popup to sign in to something, save something, translate something. GTFOff my screen holy shit.
My phone’s hardware is still all good but I’ve been forced to look for a new one. Fuck you google
My favorite example of this is this nintendo skit
What’s really bad is if someone drastically changed the implementation of something which you’ve also changed
That’s not a merge conflict, that’s a management conflict.
I got into linux at ~20 in ~2010. It’s great but got anoyed with installing windows support for games/work, and have been stuck with window since. The game engines I work on and the tools I use (visual studio, visual assist, vsvim, etc…) simply refuse to cooperate on Linux and I can’t spend valuable work time fighting my distro.
Windows is soon forcing me to switch, and changing my entire workflow, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can
