No in some cases it’s literally not an option.
No in some cases it’s literally not an option.
Rental agencies won’t contact you on anything other than WhatsApp where I live (im serious, they won’t, they have 45 other prospective renters who want the same place you do and they all have WhatsApp).
So it’s a deeper issue than just a content one as I need a roof over my head.
It’s true. Counterpoint: if you move places a lot (let’s say if you happen to belong to a generation of people who will never be able to afford a place - which is a huge amount of people), your library needs to fit into a small tablet sized reader. Can store 5000 books, I do not have the means to move that amount of books every time my landlord decides to make my rent more unaffordable. An ereader fits in my pocket.
That’s so they can stop supporting phones earlier (my theory). By saying “you got three major os versions” they make it look more impressive than “you got 2 new features, and 6 cosmetic tweaks”.
But 3 major versions? What more could you expect from a poor small bean startup??? They’re already being so generous!!!
And yes I know the pixel 8 is getting more years of support. Finally. Anything to get people to buy it, because otherwise Google has a lot of useless bricks in its warehouses.
Battling a takedown request when you’re hosting nothing is very easy to do (yes, I’ve done it, I literally automated the email responses and they were just a sophisticated “go fuck yourself”). And my forum was small, with fewer users and most likely fewer means than the redditors in charge of Lemmy.world (I was fully on my own).
Make a guess if I even had to worry about hiring a solicitor (hint: I have negative money to my name).
That’s because there weren’t any actual requests, they just caved in to a right wing troll
Repetition of words in isolation (ie flashcards or what anki offers) does nothing whatsoever to teach you a language.
Duolingo is far from perfect but it certainly does more than basic flashcards (which are fine if you’re ok with just vocab). What people constantly miss about Duolingo is that it also offers lessons (to teach you how grammar works for example) but people have to read them and take the time to understand them. Which isn’t what they normally do because it takes time and it doesn’t give you xp (it’s not gamified so everybody ignores it).
It’s how school teaching works (no it doesn’t work great either but that’s because this part is only meant to teach you about the basic layer of language, not the rest).
So Duolingo and anki aren’t designed to do the same thing at all. But if you’re serious about learning a language, Duolingo is certainly a better start IF you do it right. A combination of the two is a better bet.
Duolingo open source? Doable but you need teachers to open source their lessons and vet them. Huge amount of time and probably costly which is where the cookie crumbles.
Cutting off your family because you care about privacy is still weird unless you have poor relationship with them. Op mentioned not hearing back from them so it seems they’re not even using any other methods.
That honestly sounds more sad than anything else.
That’s because iMessage isn’t big in relative terms. It’s pretty much only Apple users (and to make it worth it, you pretty much need a phone, just having a mac.and relying on iMessage isn’t very useful tbh) and people don’t always realise it but iOS isn’t that big. It’s a minority in the smartphone world.

It’s a good thing that community doesn’t host anything illegal then. The argument doesn’t make sense because the community isn’t spreading copyrighted content.
It’s like banning true crime communities because they discuss illegal things (gratuitous killing is pretty illegal in pretty much 99.9% of all cultures around the world - possibly 100%).

Since it’s a throwaway troll account, it wouldn’t be a massive deal anyway.

That’s like… the most famous story in the history of Mozilla. it’s really not hard to find. Just google his name. Or bing it. Or “brave it”.
GTK4 is planned for 2050 (expect 5-6 year delay).
