I’m surprised that open source technology isn’t used at American universities. My local university only has proprietary software which I guess makes sense because of industry standards, but the reality is learning on open source will be more beneficial in the long run.

That ain’t no joke. Pisses me off that information is gatekept and shopwalled. Almost rverything off the net is monetized, why does cyberspace need the same treatment?
I don’t necessarily think it’s too late. There will be a niche that someone/some entity will settle into for us privacy minded folk. Hopefully that niche gets beefy processors and extra ram fr fr
