Thats pretty interesting. Do you mind telling us rough numbers on time spent building and sale price? Did you set out to make something you thought you could sell or just end up selling it?

Kind of. I saw there were marketplaces like Xpiece, GitMarket, etc popping up and I’m wondering if anyone tried those or something like it. They don’t seem to be exactly branded as ‘template marketplaces’ like a lot of the old source code sites were, but maybe there’s no difference.
Its the same with drawing.
Its funny how no one gets confused about lawyers having to practice law, etc. We need better PR.
hahaha I really want to know what you’re talking about!
I generally assume their ratings are gamed, especially for smaller shops. I know I’ve been asked recently (in the last year) to review the company I’m currently working at on glassdoor by a superior. As you can imagine, I gave the place a good review.
A year later, they’ve laid me and all but 1 dev (the CEOs buddy) off and failed to do basic shit like send COBRA info and agreed upon severance payments, but their glassdoor doesn’t reflect that, because glassdoor doesn’t make it possible to edit reviews past 30 days. I suppose I could go delete the review at least
Haha, that is a pretty hilarious visual. Do we get funny hats?
same I attribute some of my success to the fact that our computer lab teacher provided cracked versions of adobe and 3dsmax. Well over 10K in software and this is in the 90’s
Meh, how is surgery a thing? You let people just open you up and dig around your insides?
it’s a mix of need and belief in a proper vetting process. For computers there’s the additional layer that any one machine is probably low stakes. In early internet days most software was prohibitively expensive but gave you the equivalent of super powers - as a teenager / young adult with ability to take that risk you’re not going to do it?
What are the specific DVD discs you’re using?
If it’s got any type of rewriteable ability, it likely won’t play in a DVD player.
If I remember I had the best luck with DVD-R discs ( NOT DVD+R ) but it has to do with the dvd burner and the final dvd player they end up in. Might be worth trying both.
edit: just read your comment that it previously worked but stopped working? In that case Id agree that maybe your DVD burner needs a replace
how do people still have this much faith in the tools humans build after seeing the climate change caused by the industrial revolution.
is that what people used stackoverflow for? I google cheatsheets for simple syntax reminders.
What I found stack overflow useful for was ‘I have this random bug in this random browser / os combo - here’s what hasn’t worked, has anyone dealt with it?’ - and then hopefully we can all share the misery of this bug until someone figures out the source.
Not sure where to go for that type of thing anymore.
a lot of industries seem to solve problems well initially, then backtrack and make their product purposefully shitty in order to capture more revenue.
very hit and miss. It’s okay if Im trying to learn something new, and once or twice it has found and suggested some fix that I probably wouldn’t have thought of otherwise - but it also makes up methods & syntax and then you’re playing ‘whack a mole’ to figure out where it hallucinated.
I think right now it’s not really boosting my productivity much, but I think in another 5ish years it could be better.
I’m curious what your area of expertise is? I’m interested in using ai for a programming assistant, but it seems an entirely different skillset than, say, a language model. I assume some models will be good in 1 area and some models in another
Seems like it was a mix between usenet being a magnet for piracy, which all the ISPs were getting pressure to combat, and demand for usenet cratering - as newer users came on the internet they went to other places (myspace had started which appealed more to young users)
No need for lurk mode here friend
reddit was always heavily moderated for real piracy discussion, I believe
Meanwhile inside Microsoft: I’ll just copy this Xerox GUI aannndddd … Windows!

Sounds very cool. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.
