Run pihole on a server somewhere, accessible only via a vpn. Install the vpn on their devices.
I haven’t tried this but I recall someone saying it was how they had it setup.

I can see how decades of working at Microsoft can turn someone into a goose farmer. I’ve been using their products for decades and some days I never want to see their products again.
I can’t rant against librarians. My friend has been a librarian for many years and she has put up with a hell of a lot of crap from people. So be kind, be patient and be honest with them.
Obviously not all librarians, like any job, are perfect.
Spot on. You can’t self host without reading app and system logs.
I’m using https://sftpgo.com/, which uses WebDAV. It’s as basic as can be but I like it because it’s so basic. I can mount drives in windows and Linux and it has a basic webui for file management. The only problem for me is mobile apps. I’m trying out OwlFiles on Android and iOS; the free version includes WebDAV support, which works well.
Except Firefox’s bookmark system on android is absolute crap and looks hideous.
Don’t make anything accessible via the internet if you’re new and starting out. The last thing you want is to accidentally leave a port open, leave an admin page with a default guessable password, or a piece of vulnerable software running and have someone gain access to your local network.
Start locally and learn the basics following the excellent advice of others here, and slowly build your knowledge until you understand the various moving and connecting pieces.
I have a Brother laser printer, and I would certainly buy another. We print to it from windows, Linux. iOS and Android apps.
Haha it’s easy to overthink things sometimes. I’m guilty of that. I’m using SFTPGo at home to serve files from a small server.
Would this work? https://rclone.org/
Single click was always the first setting I changed.
One option is to help out various open source projects. That gives you an endless supply of options, languages and applications. You, the project and its users all benefit.
That sucks, I used to use them.
A very recent university graduate joined our company many years ago. He was quite the C++ wizard, whereas we were slowly migrating from VAX Pascal to C++. No one could understand the code he wrote as he was using all kinds of jiggery pokery without comments. We had to ask him to simplify and comment his code! 😁
That doesn’t say much about us at the time!!
Of those options, VueJs over Lia but your Java skills should transfer over to C# if you can educate yourself in that and dot Net.
I installed a second SSD into my new laptop and installed Debian on it. I set the new drive as the primary boot drive so windows doesn’t get a say and only loads when I select it from the boot menu. This way windows can’t trash the boot loader when it updates.
Be afraid, be very afraid.
Does loading the kernel module help, assuming it’s installed?
sudo modprobe vboxdrv
Maybe the theme is just broken? Perhaps it’s abandoned and old? I don’t know, I’m just guessing.
