Why has he become so controversial?

I have no idea who this guy is. I’ve seen his name float around on the internet but never knew what he did.

Maybe it’s because I’m using Kubuntu and not the pure Ubuntu? I swear I’ve never seen those in my terminals. Even when I ctrl-alt-f3 or ssh.

Honestly, I use Ubuntu and everything mentioned here are non issues. Except forcing Snaps when using apt.
I’ve never noticed ads for Ubuntu Pro in my terminal so it can’t be that intrusive.
When I install software, I use the KDE software center that let’s me pick which one I want to use between Deb, Snaps or Flatpak.
Firefox snap doesn’t start as slow as mentioned. At least not anymore.
The malware issue can happen with flatpaks as well and even native packages. In fact there have been more security issues introduced in more bleeding edge distros like Arch and Fedora that didn’t affect Ubuntu. So…
Anyway. It’s really not that big a deal except for forcing Snaps when using apt. But that can be disabled too. So again, not really a big deal.

Fork it and call it Ludique, meaning fun in French.

>Cloud based authentication? Like withAuthd allows for Ubuntu systems to authenticate users against cloud identity providers using modern standards like OpenID Connect. Authd is initially catering to Microsoft Entra ID and Google Cloud IAM though this daemon is modular by design to support other identity providers too.
Well hopefully that’ll help push Linux desktops in the corporate environments.

It’s not just Plasma I think. I can’t even ctrl-alt-fkey into a terminal. The whole system freezes.

Has anyone been able to get HDR working in Kubuntu 25.10 without the system crashing entirely?

No, never. Unless I have to leave for an extended period of time or I know there’s going to be a planned power outage.

I use it on a Surface Pro tablet. I gotta say for that usage context it’s superior to KDE.
On desktop, I really don’t like it. It’s missing so many basic features. Most distributions that have a default Gnome desktop have to ass extensions to make it more usable and closer to what people are used to. I’m thinking of Pop! Os or Zorin OS for example.
Zorin OS actually got Gnome right imo.

I firmly believe most people saying “Gnome sucks” just want a classical desktop metaphore. Which Gnome sucks at
LOL! that’s me 😅
Honestly, Gnome is okay depending on the context. I think it’s wonderful on my 1st gen Surface Pro tablet. Whereas KDE sucks.
But yeah, most people are used to the classical desktop metaphorthat looks like every desktop since Win 95. I even changed the look and feel of my KDE with a tiled app launcher to make it work like. Win10 because I love the ergonomics.
Coming from a Mac maybe people would be more at ease with Gnome though.

KDE is hands down the best desktop environment option there is on Linux right now. You gotta load up Gnome with hundreds of extension to even make it bearable and you get limited customizability.

Meh, why switch? Fedora is already pretty ahead while still being very stable.
You lose that stability with a rolling distro. You’ll end up having to spend your time fixing things more than enjoying your OS.
I’d stick with fedora if I were you.

Came here to say that

GNUcrosoft Lindows

Yeah i was going to recommend Kubuntu but the 24.04 LTS is a bit outdated although it’s very stable.
Fedora might be a better alternative.

I’ve completed the update and… just… WOW!
What the fuck dude? Everything is so FAST now. Like it’s almost predicting what I’m about to do. It’s insane!
And the games are WAAAY faster. Performance wise it’s incredible. Holy shit!

Thanks for your advice! :)
Oooof… ok.
