Yeah definitely a good idea. Routing your mobile traffic through it so your carrier cannot access your traffic and the services you don’t want to share location with can’t snoop as much on you.
I’d say it’s about designing a good strategy. I have local backups on my NAS and a nightly incremental backup to cloud locations from there. That way the capture from my local equipment to the NAS is lightning fast and it’s not a big deal to have it take a few hours to reach the cloud. Also having a NAS on a power backup is a must-have.
True, it’s not at all stage where it’s likely to be a problem. The army of very old persons isn’t at the door just yet ;-)
Same for me. I started to chit chat a bit here and there just to have some more activity but I miss a community I like to be part of.
True. Related to that I wish there were more engagement on lemmy. Most of the posts in my stream have zero replies or 1 and it’s the bot. But let’s keep smaller numbers - quality over quantity.
Meh. Not like there are shareholders to appraise of growth…
My personal favourite remains perl for anything text oriented or for simple-ish orchestration.
Security cameras with a central continuous recording system + alerts and automations… plenty of fun to be had. Also wifi access points on poe depending on the interface speed. Got those 2 at home and it has been a treat so far.
TIL in English it is called assembly 😅 We had C in 2nd year, first was only cobol, assembly and pascal. Fun times :)
Cobol wasn’t that bad… the use of line numbers was weird but at the time it wasn’t unique either. Assembler now… that was a bitch… the operations weren’t exactly intuitive and playing with registers wasn’t my thing. But I could pickup cobol if I was starving no problem :)
Not so long ago we had video broadcasts, akin to radio, which was called « television » I think…. Yet it was generally not free either.
Telco. Back then I was internal investigation. 25k employees. Bound to have some bad apples unfortunately. Honestly not weirder than elsewhere.
