Not for much longer. It apparently proved to be a maintenance nightmare.
Kubuntu is ok for a new person on linux?
I want to install apps/programms via flatpak
The second line is the argument why all the Ubuntus aren’t for newcomers anymore. Canonical attempts to push users into failed technologies (Snap instead of Flatpak in this case).
So if you want to keep using Kubuntu over something like Fedora KDE, you are expected to learn how steer around these artificial limitations.
Btw, KDE are currently in the process of developing KDE Linux. It is not done, yet, but may be worth to check into from time to time.

“we want to be the Apple of the Linux World”
Funny that they constantly fail at that ambition, though.

I’ll just move to a distro that isn’t affected.
Just use Steam, Lutris, Heroic, and whatever as Flatpak. Flatpak solved the problem years ago. 32bit libraries there are just runtimes working independently of the host OS packaging.
It’s fine to relegate x86-32 to a sandboxed environment.

“Drops the Linux build to focus supporting proton” makes as much sense as “drops the windows build to focus supporting direct x in wine”
They could target WSL for Windows compatibility.
