This is clearly a job for tasker!
This is similar to what got me started using tasker, now it does a few dozen jobs for me.
You could try to “make a copy” using gdrive, that’ll add a new downloadable version to your drive
I totally agree, Plex is good but hardly worth that price given the issues and bugs.
I’d buy it if it were a lower price or worked better!
I’ve not run it on that platform, I would imagine they have similar capabilities in the Linux version.
It runs in portable mode by default, as you suggest this means it needs to be run each time.
So for unattended windows machine I installed it as a service and activated a permanent password for it. Problem solved!
