A side-question: isn’t yt-dlp --simulate pretty slow? Especially given the fact that mpv would need to do the same thing again. Wouldn’t having just a regexp that matches most of the yt-dlp-supported video URLs be much more efficient?

The problem with regulators is that they a) gladly suck corporate dicks, b) gladly opt-in for the same authoritarian methods of population control, and c) gladly ignore common sense altogether.
