My instance has been online for about a month, the supplied docker-compose.yaml was quite straightforward, had a little headache with Nginx but nothing overly complicated.
The long-con so to speak is federation, you have to subscribe to each community manually to begin federating with them, i have noticed timing issues with other instances such as Lemmy.world and have not been able to resolve them.
I’ve OOM my Proxmox numerous times, too expensive to upgrade, so far has corrupted my VM’s a small handful of times, shout out to fsck for bringing everything back in order.
The worst is when the LVM-Thin storage is full, trying to get into a VM that can’t boot because it has no disk space left is horrendous and I never wish that upon anyone.

If you want people to take your requests for support seriously then you shouldn’t be using ambiguous wording. Be clear, be concise.
It’s proprietary software, they only have an APi for marketing related requests and you’re unlikely to find someone spending time reverse engineering the application.
Debian for everything.

Bought an Asus TUF laptop back in 2020? Maybe 2021, had a Ryzen 3750H and a 1660ti, at first it was great and was an improvement from my previous laptop but unfortunately barely lasted a year before the fan bearings started to give out and made terrible sounds, even after replacing the fans they barely lasted a month before going back to the horrid noises.
The thing struggles to keep itself cool. Doesn’t matter if it’s running Debian or Windows it was horrible to do literally anything without getting frustrated.
Eventually upgraded and gave it to a buddy who didn’t have a computer, thing still sucks as a daily driver and I definitely wouldn’t trust it in a server environment. The sounds of those fans still haunt me to this day.
Guess you won’t be making issues there for a while eh
What distro are you using? There are 3 big distro’s you need to keep in mind for, Debian, Arch and Fedora, every other distro typically bases themselves off of one of these big distro’s.

Couple of definitions and examples that will help you along the way.
If you really need to expose something to the internet set yourself up an SSO/OIDC provider and have it sit in front of the service and have a deny-first policy in place, whitelist the known few IP’s that need to connect regularly or alternatively geoblock.
Also suggest setting up some security headers, however headers can be confusing for beginners.
Virtualize or containerize everything.
Ubuntu is based off of Debian, just use Debian instead.
Matrix is nice but it’s clear they’re appeasing more towards shareholders than the community, self-hosting via Docker Compose was a PIA as there are 4-5 services that need to talk to one another.
I tried finding such a script but had no luck. I was able to export my subscription list from sh.itjust.works and imported it on my instance.
I had to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the communities I follow as I was experiencing the ‘Subscribe Pending’ issue but after a little while things seemed to start evening out and becoming a bit more stable.
