I still have some screenshots from my old Android G1 that is skeuomorphism galore. It’s nostalgic.
It’s such an easy one to misspell. I was a graphic artist for years and it’s not the first time I’ve seen this error. Glad I could help! Lmao.
“Get you spot” - typo??
This is pretty neat! The new tech for big screens is unreal.
Not sure if this is a perfect fit, but I use http-server when I need to spin up something super rudimentary that works out of box.
Edit: sorry, no UI for that one, but the commands for it are pretty simple to understand. You could try something like XAMPP instead. Portainer is nice for spinning stuff up quickly, but it has a slightly steeper learning curve.
I should note that you can run this in any folder you want to serve files from.
This is why I stopped identifying myself as full-stack and only do front end.
I think it’s just part of this “move fast” mentality. We’re at a point where we’re forced to move so quickly that things get thrown out the window just to meet a deadline.
Software teams solved this a fucking eternity ago through shared component and design libraries. Meanwhile, all of these FAANG companies are out here pushing surveillance tools that are all clearly built by siloed teams with zero collaboration.

What I usually do is change every Steam game to use the “Experimental” version of Proton. As soon as I enable that, basically any game in my library becomes installable. Even non-Steam games can be added in and use Proton iirc. My success rate has been pretty good, but some games are still a little rough (mostly lack of controller support, or things like traversing dumb launchers like in GTA).
I recently moved my ASUS ROG Zephyrus entirely over to Linux and it’s been seamless. I’ve been able to play every game without issue. Between my Steam Deck and the laptop, my console days may be numbered.
Congrats! I still have a Nexus 5 that’s been running it for years. It’s great.
Mozilla is a little different too. They’ve been around for a long time and I get the vibe at least most of the folks there believe in something. They’re also are struggling to strike a balance between keeping the doors open, and not becoming a terrible monster like Google and Meta have become. I’ve been using their stuff for a long time.
The real solution is to never send that data at all. I don’t trust any company when they say they encrypt data, unless they have their approach reviewed by experts in the cryptographic field.
Is it encrypted at rest or only in transit? What’s the encryption and the method? Where is the data stored?
It’s like giving someone the keys to your house simply based on a promise they’ll never enter.
Microsoft recently debuted their Recall feature and it was immediately found to have a major flaw in the security of the storage method for the files. These companies have proven they’re careless at every turn.
From what I read before, it seems like they’re at least anonymizing data, but as soon as I read that they’re working with Meta to standardize the approach, I winced hard. You can opt out of it at least.
Windows has basically become malware. It does a fuck ton of tracking, and all of its features are about appeasing shareholders over users.
If we want to get technical: I loathe it because even in the year 2024, it’s the only operating system I’ve witnessed that will absolutely grind to a halt when a third party application stops responding or crashes. There is no valid fucking reason why the parent system should be halted by an application that crashes.
Also, ads in the start panel. Absolutely not, Microsoft. No way in hell am I allowing that to live on a computer I own. Yes, I’m aware third party apps will address that but it shouldn’t be a thing to begin with.
Oh yeah, and it decided to automatically update itself to the latest version on my ASUS ROG laptop while the thing was closed and not in use. So upon booting it up and seeing ads in the UI, I wiped the system clean and installed Nobara. Bye bye. 👋
These are pretty standard UI patterns.

Someone I know had an old friend on their Facebook timeline say that schools should be reformed and don’t need classes like algebra. Then they proceeded to list fields kids could receive training for instead… and all of them required math of some sort.
