And hdd/ssd speed. Honestly it’s more about the drive speed than the cpu.

Nowhere near as much as you think. And yet another person who has no idea how any of this actually works and has been working for like 20 years now.
Why, oh why do I try to educate you lot on shit like this? I might as well just stick my hand in a woodchipper.
Just admit your part of a cult and you will have the first step to recovery.
And I did pick my position damn near 20 years ago at this point. I had a couple of old school ipods but my first “smart phone” was a blackberry, my second was also a blackberry and then I moved to android with a phone sized tablet that only had wifi and they nexus after that. I’ve flashed more roms, backed up and restored more data, etc than you have had friends.
You have a nice day now and I will add you to the block list as well.
Yes and no.
It’s clear that no one here actually understands how this stuff works so I’m done. But I will say this. Google only controls so much. Another large player or enough smaller developers working together could change the direction. And no, you don’t really need play services, play store, etc. There are alts like f-Droid and see my earlier sentence.
Android is open source and this post is full of shit. Apple is a company that makes phones and the os that runs on them. Android is used by Google for the pixel line and the nexus line before it but anyone can fork android and make it their own, make it run on any device that supports it, etc.
None of this is true for android. You can and always have been able to sideload whatever apps you want so long as it’s compiled to work with your version of android.
Apple has always been the walled garden and they are nowhere near in the same league.
If you want to be taken seriously, don’t mention apple and android in the same sentence like this. Apple makes phones, android is an operating system and a Foss one at that. Wording like the above shows a major lack of understanding when it comes to tech.
Do better.
I’ve never had an issue but then again I don’t use it for much more than movies and TV. If sync thing supports qnap I might check it out but I’ve been using sync since it was launched (if not soon after).
Sync by resilio. I use it between my computers and nas and between my computer and my vps and my nas and my vps, I also use it between my work and personal phone.
I would stick with namecheap (for now) and pony up for a multi year registration. If in 5 or 10 years they are jacking the price up then you can use another registrars cheap port option to get a discount. I did this recently between godaddy and namecheap. I had one domain left with godaddy that I have owned for over probably a couple of decades at this point and they were seriously jacking the rate up on me, I ported it to namecheap for a massive discount.
They aren’t looking to host a website. They are looking for domain registrars
Did you not read the first sentence I wrote?
There is a place for all kinds of media for people to digest. My problem is with there not being text versions of most things anymore especially for those of us who aren’t actually looking to learn something new, we just want to know how many and locations of screws to take a laptop apart so we can fix it. Or which settings screen on a routers firmware does a specific thing. These days I have to watch someone go through the entire tear down or all of the settings and watch carefully for what I’m looking for.
For the record I went to a Montessori school and my mother taught it for decades. I am aware and open to various ways to learn new things.
The days of text based walk throughs are sadly behind us.
You aren’t wrong. But, this format is taking over and I hate having to watch a video for information that I can parse easier when it’s text based. Everytime I’ve looked for schematics and a teardown of a laptop or other hardware all I find is videos that I have to scrub through looking for exactly what I need.
Depending on how old the phone is, this is less of an issue than you or others here think it is. Starting a few years ago, android at least can’t simply be wiped and set back up from scratch. Manufacturers/Android did this in response to the increase in phone thefts. Iirc, this had a significant impact on the number of phones being stolen as an opportunity theft. If someone targets you, that’s a different story.
As others have said. Make sure encryption is turned on and that it’s setup with a pin. If you really are concerned then make sure the time out to lock is set to as low as possible and never have it unlocked if it’s not in your hands.
Chip bags work a treat as well.
Newer phones aren’t worth stealing anymore (for the most part). New features at the bootloader level (pm android at least) prevent you from simply wiping the phone and using it. When you wipe it, you still need to have the pin that the last owner/user setup or else it’s just a paper weight.
I dealt with this myself not long ago. I gave my step daughter my pixel 5a when I upgraded to a 7pro and she still needed my pin to set it up.
Waze has worked in AA for years. No clue where you got the original idea that it didn’t or needed to made to work, it just works as a a supported app.
I use resilio sync across my work and personal phones and I use it to backup my phones to my nas. No need to turn it on/off, it’s accessible only via secret key or shared link and it’s encrypted.
I know sync isn’t foss but it’s the best one I’ve found over the years and it just works.
