Linux@programming.dev•[Phoronix] KDE Plasma 6.7 X11 vs. Wayland Session Gaming Performance For NVIDIA On CachyOSEnglish
81·1 month agoKind of a pointless comparison as we all know that x11 is EOL and Valve is hightailing it with significant improvements with Proton + Wayland.
A no-brainer comparison seeing the Wayland performance in the lead tbh.

Linux@programming.dev•Ubuntu's "AI Kill Switch" Is Achieved By Removing Snaps, Initially Opt-In - PhoronixEnglish
381·4 months agoJon Seager as the VP of Engineering at Canonical
Seager explained in this morning’s update while there won’t be a “global kill switch” for AI features on Ubuntu, their plan is to deliver all the AI features via Snap packages. So removing AI features on Ubuntu will come down to removing Snaps.
lmao
At this point if snaps are being installed on your system you might want to have a talk with the admin/IT guy, unless you are the admin in which case you do you🤷♀️. Carry on good sir/lady/person.
The AI bros on the other hand are probably drooling all over this as AI and Ubuntu basically goes hand in hand.

Linux@programming.dev•Why Flatpak Won and Snap and AppImage Didn't. - Cameron KnauffEnglish
12·5 months agoOn Linux I don’t really care who “wins” or loses" as we just have options.
The only 2 things I personally care about is which of the options have the most consistent and trustworthy developer, and which one is licensed or closest to being licensed under AGPL-3.0.
“Which xyz is better?” is the last of my concerns as my disgust for “proprietary”, AI-product/service, and NVIDIA knows no bounds.
All that being said;
I’m glad people love Flatpaks, app images still exist, and that people dump snaps like it’s the plague.

Linux@programming.dev•New Patches From Valve Bring AMDGPU Power Management Improvements For Old GCN 1.0 GPUsEnglish
271·7 months agoAt this point Gabe Newell (Valve CEO) should tell Lisa Su (AMD CEO) to move aside and step down cause he and his team at Valve are doing more work for AMD’s software/drivers than AMD themselves as far as I can tell anyways.

Linux@programming.dev•11.37%. Now we're talking.English
19·7 months agoAs much as I’d like the marketshare to be 11% I’m quite skeptical of this counting.
Until StatCounter can provide details on how the heck they’re determining the percentages I’d personally recommend against using their stats.
Currently for now I’d recommend using Steam/Valve’s user percentage counter as their breakdown provides more clarity.
