I think the point here is that anything that can be indexed by search engines or archival crawlers would be better, so not Matrix either. Forums, for example. Like what happens if the Discord community gets deleted due to whatever circumstances? All of that gathered knowledge will be just gone with no way to recover or search for it.

I read that the “level of annoyance” (phrasing mine) has to do with your score (i.e. how likely Google thinks you are a bot). And I wouldn’t be surprised if using any browser other than ones in their ecosystem reduces your score more.
Anyway, there are other captcha systems websites could use but choose not to.
KeePassXC is not affected by this vulnerability.

I got past it because it happened to throw a place from my country. And there was also a flagpole with a flag on it to really drive it home. XD
