Man they’re one of the best bands that I could never quite get into on a personal level. Like, I have heard them plenty, and even gave them a nore immersive listen once I hoisted sail. But there’s no connection there for me, despite recognizing the talent that kept them a much loved act over the years.
That’s always a weird place for me. Hearing music, being able to tell that it’s really good, but it just not doing anything for me.
But I’m glad as hell that they still have a fan base. They influenced way too much to disappear
This is my all time favorite band.
Truly there are few bands that present a better justification for the vinyl format as well. Don’t get me wrong, the writing and the artistry are all there and incredible in their own right. But their signature sound is so lush and organic, particularly in later records like Spiritchaser. It sounds like an alive thing is in the room with you when that record starts, and the sensation never leaves you.
I would love to see them live but I fear that will never be. I think Brandon Perry has some health issues and Lisa Gerrard lives in the Outback. Supposedly they are planning a tour for this year. I hope they come to the US but I would completely understand if they refused to enter the country. My favorite album is Serpent’s Egg. I miss the Cocteau Twins too but Elizbeth Frasier has made it every clear she is not interested in preforming again.
