You can still like the project as a concept and not like the people in charge. Regardless, this is a good piece of media people should review when considering using the OS.
Sure but he is so toxic it has kept me away and probably others. I don’t want to be associated with a person like that.
Apparently according to others in the thread, he’s since stepped down
Associated with him? by just using software?
Stop exaggerating
Some people aren’t comfortable running an OS on their phone that’s created by an absolute nut case, myself included. I just switch off Graphene back to LOS because of this shit
I ran GrapheneOS on a pixel 5 but ultimately went back to stock.
GrapheneOS was considerably slower on my phone. Apps took a bit longer to loader, but the worst was installing APKs, it takes so much longer compared to stock. Some apps (e.g. revolut) took more than 5 minutes to install, it was crazy.
GrapheneOS uses exec spawning by default, but it’s pretty trivial to disable and it does speed things up (at a slight cost to security).
I think using AOT rather than JIT compiling might be the cause of the slow installs, but I’m not sure (and I’ve not really noticed a problem myself).
Exactly. This was always a trivial performance difference, but the toggle was added just to satisfy anyone who might hear such a statement and be unreasonably concerned.

Even with that option disabled the slow down was significant enough. Maybe the mid-range chip used in the Pixel 5 wasn’t helping, but still… Overall the phone felt significantly quicker when switching back to stock.

That’s it, I remember reading in their forums one of the mods(or devs?) mentioning this.
The permission toggle for sensors access is pretty cool. I have it toggled to off by default for every app I download. If it doesn’t work without my gyroscopic sensors then let it be, less spyware for me.
Edit: gyroscopic sensors can give lots of information, just the vibrations alone from a phone call and the gyro can pick up on that and work as a microhone. It can tell you about the way you hold the phone and certain habits that I’m sure a resourceful company can exploit very well. Here is an article talking about it from 2014, I am confident the technology has gone a long way since then.

I’m curious what apps require gyroscope access to work
the hated one made a video about how they can be used as a low quality microphone
Google pixel is not available here and Graphene does not work on samsung :(
The only thing keeping me from switching to grapheneos is the inability to use Android auto. I use AA so frequently, that losing it would be a big hit. I really hope they find a way to get AA working, or if they come up with a doable workaround.
That’s a pretty big loss. Even with play services it doesn’t work?
AFAIK it does not. I’ve searched around and there does not seem to be a workaround.
This is nice.
But OnePlus mobiles are less expensive, and Graphene OS isn’t the most De-googled either. Although it can be made so
Isn’t it entirely degoogled by default?
Still connects to some Google domains
They have reduced AOSP connections to Google domains substantially in the last year. Many are now proxied through their own servers now.
So what is the most de-googled one?
/e/OS
Have they stopped using other people’s work without crediting them though?
Care to give any of us a link/workthrough on how to install it?
You can find that info on their website.
GrapheneOS has two officially supported installation methods. You can either use the WebUSB-based installer recommended for most users or the command-line installation guide aimed at more technical users.
Thank you

for what?
