Is the instance giving anyone else timeouts and just sluggish?
Also, is there a group for kali linux and such on lemmy already? I need to start adding back all my groups again. Also curious about NSFW stuff on lemmy.
Surprised you don’t run it through cloudflare, but I’m not sure how their privacy policy would like it given a) traffic and b) main subreddit being piracy
I just put my instance through cloudflare, it seems okay. I would guess cloudflare won’t be that fussed considering it’s federated/easily accessible from others.
Looks like this one is in Germany (lemmy.dbzer0.com). I’m in the USA and I was getting big lags and sluggish response. I found one in my region and it’s very snappy (lemmy.one). When you find a close instance, you can search for non-local communities and subscribe to them that way, just select the “all” button next to the communities search box.
Doing a reverse lookup on the IP shows a German (.de) registrar and nameserver so I would guess Germany, but it’s entirely possible to have registration and server locations in different countries. Maybe our Captain could tell us, but I don’t know if that’s sensitive information.
It is in Germany. Look at the owner of that IP. Contabo.de. They rent Proxmox VMs for incredibly cheap (6 euro/month for 4 cores, 8 GBs of RAM and 200GB SSD), I have one of them as well.
Not sure if you are joking, but it is incredibly cheap. But you gotta get your own DDOS protection etc. Don’t really care. I run the webserver on it through cloudflare’s free plan and that has been good enough
Yep, Contabo is cheap but trustworthy. I don’t actually remember how I learned about them, but I have had that VPS for almost 2 years at this point. They only increased the price by one euro last year

Yes it is sluggish. I’m trying to figure this out

Did a tweak. I think it helped a bit. What do you think?
People need to find a local instance and subscribe here from there.
Just curious, what hardware are you running this on?
Edit: I see, a fellow Contabo enjoyer. 6 Euro tier?
24 actually, and the DB is not even in the same box
24? Is that a grandfathered VPS XL tier?
Naw, it’s VPS L + extra storage

if DB zero would be in germany its gone fast lol iam german and our police and Politicans rate Piracy worse than some crimes

Man that -is- cheap, 80 USD a year, what a deal.

Not joking, I’ve looked into VMs myself and most are about twice that rate.

Damn, I’ve got to look into that myself. Mine’s currently on AWS and costing me a small fortune
Search for the Lemmy Community Browser to find other communities and subscribe to them via whatever instance you signed up with.
Iam on Lemmy.world seems fine generally Lemmy is a bit slower cause everything is Inter connected but yeah.
Most of the nsfw is on lemmynsfw.com, there’s some on kbin and lemmy.world too, but only like 3-5 communities each
