They intentionally choose to handle errors poorly.

Just like they intentionally choose to handle updates poorly, DON’T YOU WANT TO REBOOT FOR THE FIFTHEENTH FUCKING TIME AND LOSE YOUR SESSION WITH 29 PROGRAMS OPEN ACROSS 8 DESKTOPS WHILE RUNNING A RENDERING PROCESS?

Meanwhile, Linux: why yes, I’ll update the kernel in-place without rebooting and keep your 784 day uptime.

  • To be more fair, it should be way easier to use root on Android than it currently is, and it could be done without compromising security.

Like, I shouldn’t have to dig through mountains of unofficial documentation from weird sources, only to the find that, whoopsie, this method doesn’t work for your particular submodel of phone, you have to take this ultra-specific path that’s prone to issues and may not work. Oh, and make sure you backup your entire device, because rooting will wipe it and now you have to spend your entire fucking day restoring everything.

Like, just give me the option to enable root access somewhere in the developer settings. It can even be an obscure (but simple) process like it is to enable developer settings in the first place by tapping “about” a dozen times or something. Put up a half dozen warnings explaining why it’s “dangerous” for mortals to enable root for all I care, just make it work.

Road to hell, good intentions and all that. Government fundamentally misunderstanding the role of cookies and the fact that browsers can handle user privacy with trivial effort by default rather than having every single website annoy the fuck out of you with a million goddamn notifications before actually showing you what you want to see.

  • This is unironically the real reason.

The same people who wouldn’t notice the comically obvious spelling and grammatical errors, ridiculously silly imagery, and the fact that it’s demanding fucking bitcoin… well, let’s just say they’re not the “attention to detail” types and are more easily captured by scammers.

  • Honestly … they’ve pulled a lot of dumb shit that makes me think it’s within the realm of possibility.

Just look at how things happened with “Microsoft accounts” since Windows 7…i refuse to use a Microsoft account because there’s no way in hell I’m giving them my contact info, but also, it’s a total clusterfuck actually managing the damn thing.

Windows 8 suggested using a Microsoft account.

Windows 10 setup a Microsoft account by default. In later subversions, you can only get around it by cutting the internet connection.

Windows 11 refuses to setup at all without an internet connection; instead , it requires you to perform a hidden hacky workaround by opening cmd accessible only by keyboard shortcut, running a specific command to enable offline setup, then rebooting to finally complete it.

You really don’t think they’re stupid enough to push ahead with this cloud dogshit?

  • I didn’t read through the entire spec, but I read enough to sniff out their Trojan horseshit. I’m not regurgitating anything, I’m calling it as I see it.

This is of benefit to no one but for corporate overlords to do more overlording. It’s fixing a problem that doesn’t exist.

I don’t know why you’re trying to hard to defend one the biggest corporations on earth that decidedly not-not-evil, but if I ever need a top notch recipe for robust leather footwear, I’ll be sure to call you up.
