apparently you cant use an alias
The humble Codeberg:
Github is owned my Microslop
I switched when GitHub started forcing me to login to see any repo
I think there are some alternatives. People recommend Codeberg but I haven’t used yet.
They are really good. I use both Codeberg and their self-hosted solution Forgejo for my projects.
But far-right people hate Codeberg for allowing for an example equal rights projects, they attacked Codeberg in February last year. And Codeberg gets DDoS attacks every now and then. The most recent attack was last month.
What is equal right project ?
Projects that are made by LGBTQ people or for those who are LGBTQ.
I mean, what kind of project is specifically made for LGBTQ people? I don’t know what makes them special.
Aha. Unfortunately, I don’t know either, but what I do know is that Codeberg are a very open place to have your source code on.
I hate that so many script kiddies are far-right.
I guess something with being 14?Being far-right does not indicates that person is a teenager. I know (not personally, but them because they exists and you can read/hear about them) many far-right people who are above 20 years old (Trump as of one example). But that’s for a whole other discussion (politic and religion).
have you tried all the domain choices? i haven’t tried with github lately but many sites will accept aliases if i use the more obscure domains like 8alias.* or slmail.* etc
which domain did you try?
it was the domain given by proton mail
deleted by creator
github shadow banned my account when I created it with an alias from simple login
same here. It must have been that or the HTML code that I posted. I have thus changed my password to a random sequence and I will delete my alias soon. I hate microslop and hate my employer for paying tribute to the Americans in this way as well
Github shadowbanned me using an anonaddy alias. Made appeal, they told me to change the mail and not use an alias, even if I had 2FA, totp and phone number on that account. I guess I will not use github.
I just changed my password to a random one
I tried to use SimpleLogin.I did create the account but couldn’t login after a day or so.
Same thing with Bluesky.
When I created a new account last year, I could use an alias at first. But then I couldn’t invite people to projects because of some security concerns because of the alias. In the end, after talking to their tech support, I used a real email address. Really annoying :(
They shadow ban you for it. AFAIK it’s not documented anywhere, heard from support after noticing a single PR I opened missing (I didn’t use GitHub outside work).
same
Same
Yes exactly, I had to really convince the tech support that I’m a regular human without dubious interest to get the shadow ban lifted…
It will be less annoying when you just have to show ID to have your account unlocked
I remember I used to have the same problem when I was using Proton Pass aliases.
IIRC, by default Proton Pass uses the passmail.net alias. I fixed it by using another Proton Pass alias (I think it was the passmail.com one)
It blocks some alias domains but not aliases in general. I had to change from the default to one of the other three options when making my alias
Yeah, I’ve got a custom domain and have zero problems making github accounts.
github has flagged my account for daring to post a piece of HTML code for a read along website so I just changed my password to a random one
I’m using an alias and it’s working for me, maybe it’s a recent change…
What do you even mean by an alias? Just an alternate email address? How can they tell?
alias is basically having a dummy email address which will forward emails to your real email. so that way they wont know your real email and cant spy on you
Likely a service like SimpleLogin or Addy.io
Is the alias on your own domain or a shared one?
Question, how do you feel about the gecko vs blink/chromium browser “wars” ?
umm, I want the gecko to win however the odds are against us
So you feel like taking a pragmatic approach might be more advisable?
