Which makes little sense to me. They carved out a very nice place on the internet being entertaining instead of half the video being spreadsheets and stats about computer hardware. Seems as if they want their fingers in every pie now.

I was surprised to learn that they have their own streaming service, full service production agency and tech convention, and that their store sells a lot more than just t-shirts.

It seems safe to say that yes, they do want their fingers in every pie.

FYIY there’s no harm in wanting to do more, provide more services, etc. But one has to give oneself the means to do so. And growth is always where failure happens. It’s the same as focusing on adding features at the expense of squashing bugs.

And the same way I have problems with devs who disregard bug hunting and only care about pushing features out, I take issue with companies like LMG who explode in both size and featureset, while totally forgetting to improve processes, increase attention to quality, and put comprehensive feedback systems in place.

I know Linus doesn’t watch videos, but several of his own employees explicitly said the load of work was incompatible with quality. It doesn’t take a genius to extrapolate from there, so they could easily have.

This whole situation is essentially Steve giving Linus a hot bomb, being like “careful Bro, you left it unattended and pressure has been building up over months”, and Linus going “meh, you’re paranoid. Look, I’ll even put it in the middle of this bag of Rusty nails and shoot at it with explosive ammo, it’s gonna be just fi…”

I mean yeah that’s exactly why they’ve split of into multiple channels to convert a wider spectrum of content. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start another channel with tech comedy skits.

Linus always wanted to be more, to go back to helping people with good guides and reviews, but he just can’t seem to stop with the entertaining for long enough to actually produce high quality informational content.
